Centre for Education and Work
The Centre for Education and Work (CEW) is a not for profit organization. We are entirely project based and develop creative and innovative responses to identified need in the adult learning field. The CEW designs tools for both facilitators and learners to help guide them through varying stages of learning and teaching within both the formal and alternative education systems. Some of the tools CEW has produced include: Portfolio for Youth Development, Stages of Literacy Facilitators Guide, mini guide and multi-media DVD. CEW offers services to design and deliver portfolio courses for target audiences, the design and delivery of curriculum and training for specific audiences and the design of occupational analyses for identifying learning and training gaps. Project service examples include PLAR for Workers in Transition and the Informal Learning in the Workplace. Support and funding come from the federal and provincial governments, industry, occupational and community partners and educational providers. The CEW has been able to implement innovative projects to connect adult learners to educational systems. The University of Winnipeg, our affiliate educational institution, has supplied invaluable support since the CEW’s inception in 2001.

The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning
We at CAEL are reaching out to all postsecondary institutions to enhance their ability to attract, serve, and retain adult learners. If you are working in higher education and also have colleagues who are interested in these issues, please pass this information along. By building a community of educational institutions, we hope to increase access and success for all adult learners. CAEL has worked with many postsecondary institutions as part of statewide initiatives to:
- Help develop strategies to create partnerships among higher education institutions, business and industry
- Assist in developing marketing campaigns to attract adult learners
- Train advisors to serve adults more effectively
- Offer workshops and on site consulting in Prior Learning Assessment
As part of CAEL’s work, we regularly conduct and disseminate research; host webinars, conferences, and workshops; and provide information on policy initiatives and innovative ways to work with adult learners.
