2007 Recipients, Reception held at Greenwood Inn, Winnipeg MB

I would like to congratulate our PEARL award winners for 2007. Again this year we had excellent projects nominated that show the diversity of PLA and how so many people are benefitting. As an example, it was nice to see that our good word is spreading to include “corporate” Manitoba with companies such as Manitoba Hydro actively participating. Their PLA project had 19 of their employees involved and saw them attain a higher level of qualification recognized by the corporation.

This year we also created an Award of Excellence for Best Practices given posthumously in memory of Ron Krishka, Co-ordinator of PLA for the Apprenticeship Branch .

Two life memberships were recently awarded at the MPLAN conference on May 11th. The first award was given to D’Arcy Phillips. D’Arcy was past chair of MPLAN and played a key role in the creation of the Pearl Awards. D’Arcy continues to promote MPLAN and contribute signigficantly to PLAR best practice in his work with immigrant qualifications recognition. Darlene Cullimore, Deb Blower, Sherri Sullivan and Carol Haawkins recognized D’Arcy’s contribution to the organization.

The second award went to Gail Hall who is also a past chair of MPLAN and a key contrtibutor to innovative practice in PLAR across Canada with the Recognition for Learning Website. Gail represented MPLAN in a presentation at the Saskatchewan Recognition of Prior Learning Working group this spring. Carol Hawkins, Sherri Sullivan and Deb Blower recognized Gail’s many achievements.

Both D’Arcy and Gail have a passion for PLAR that continues long after their role on the MPLAN board.

Thank you to all who participated!
